1945 ---> 2012

As part of some ongoing quilt research, I picked up a copy of an old magazine which was supposed to have a photo of a quilt I was looking for.  November 1945 Country Gentleman.

As I was paging through the magazine looking for the quilt, I found a picture of something I recognized.  An advertisement for a cake plate and cover.

Then I opened my kitchen cupboard.

It's a match!  I have had this for years myself.  It had belonged to my mother.

  1. Hi Ann,
    I LOVE those cake holders. My grandmom had several but after she passed everything got auctioned off and of course they are gone. There were 7 kids and no one wanted to really go through the stuff so they auctioned it off. Gosh I wish I had a chance to see what they sent, not like I'm a gold digger, but geez.....they had such sentimental value to me. For some reason in my entire large family I seem to be the only person that feels sentimental value. The gifts my grandmother's gave me over the years I treasure like gold. If anything would happen to them I'd be devastated. That's just how I am, everything they have given me comes with a beautiful memory. I'm sure you know what I mean. Have a great weekend!!

  2. How fun! I have a square one that my aunt gave me...the plate isn't as pretty as yours but the top does make it easy to bring a cake to quilting bees!

  3. My mom had that same cake cover, and I think the plate was the same too. My sis had it for years, but finally got rid of it. I'm the family pack rat, and now I'm the only one left, so I have lots of "old" stuff, and I just can't part with it. ---"Love"

  5. That is so cool!! I am sure I have seen that same set at family gatherings in years gone by. Not sure if it was Grandma's or one of the aunt's.
