No, not leftovers from dinner, leftovers from quilting. I recently finished two quilts that used tons of scrappy half square triangles (I can't show you those two projects just yet). I always make some extra hst's to account for little mistakes and to give me some different choices to try out. With my leftovers I was able to make two little quilts.
The indigo with tiny white stars in one of my all time favorite fabrics. This design was manufactured around the time of the centennial in 1876, though I think the piece of fabric I have, while vintage ( 24 inch wide from selvedge to selvedge), is not that old.
I arranged the hst's in a sort of random way until I was pleased with the color distribution. The hst's are 1 inch finished, borders are two inches wide. The finished quilts measure 9 inches square and will make a cute display on a little table, maybe with a tin candle holder in the center.
So save those hst's and make a "leftover" quilt.
Perfect little leftovers!!
ReplyDeleteVery cute! Last week I made a bunch of hourglass blocks using some leftover squares of fabric - it's fun to make 'something' out of nothing! Stop by my blog and see!
ReplyDeleteGreat project for your leftovers!

How lovely! Your little quilts are so cute!
ReplyDeleteI have a bag of hst that just doesn't seem to go away...I've made at least four "leftover" doll quilts and there is still enough for four more! (mid-quilt correction left me with a lot of greens and purples in excess!) Really like you little quilts...maybe I'll take out the bag and make a few more!
ReplyDeleteCute, and fun, aren't they? I can't begin to tell you how many hst's I have from that huge church circle quilt, to say nothing of the number from my own projects over the years. More than likely, if I ever had any, I still have them --- only God knows where some of them are! Maybe someday I'll do something with some of them! ---"Love"
ReplyDeleteThey are so cute! Perfect little table mats. I just organized a bunch of my HSTs - squared them up and sorted the various sizes in baggies. Then yesterday, I found another basket of them in the closet, so I will put them in the appropriate baggies and try to get them used.
ReplyDeleteVery cute! I am into HST's for the same reason. So much you can do with them and the more scrappy they are the better they look!

I really need to save those HST. Love those little bitty quilts.
ReplyDeleteGreat little quilts!
ReplyDeleteI have bags of HST's to play with - lots of sizes - but none are as fabulous as your REAL vintage fabrics.
Great treasures!
these are lovely and I too like to make these random tiny little quilts with my leftovers and cuttings. As a new blogger please do drop by and let me know what you think- do tell me though, what does HST stand for? that new one to me
ReplyDeleteHi to answer your question the blcoks finish at 5 inches.
ReplyDeleteI have a block board just like that - it's made from a cake board covered in wadding then a flannel sheet. I love the vintage look of the little quilts.
ReplyDeletei've popped over from Collector With A Needle's Blog and have enjoyed your wonderful blog.
