Quilts from the collection of Paul and Rita Flack are on display through the end of July at the Mercer Museum in Doylestown, PA. These quilts fall into the I-wish-this-was-my-collection category. I was stunned by the beauty and the impeccable condition of the quilts. Talk about bold colors and design. Many of the quilts are from Mennonite families, and most date to the late 19th to early 20th century.
A bonus for me was finding a pillowcase.
Here is the description, but trust me, it is not machine applique, it is hand-stitched.
Some of my other favorites:
The "scherenschnitte" border is fantastic.

The colors and designs of these quilt knock my socks off. Looks like a worthwhile exhibit to visit. Wish I lived close enough to do so.
ReplyDeleteI got to see the exhibit on Tuesday. It was amazing. I have a new appreciation for Pennsylvania quilts. Today we got to the Packwood House Museum. It was great also.

Loved the quilts you shared. I was especially drawn to the one with the pink and red backgrounds. It's interesting how the different background affects how the appliqué looks. Fun!
