Lewisburg Trip, Part 2, and a give-away, and a surprise

A Blogger Black Hole swallowed my last post, so here we go again...

(flower box across the street from the museum, what a beautiful color combination)

The second day of our trip started with a visit to see the Packwood House quilt exhibit, at least for me. My husband opted to go on a bike ride along a local trail. Sometimes it's just better this way; he's happy and I am happy at the same time, just not in the same place :)

Let me tell you right up front, that photos of the exhibit were not permitted. You can see photos of my trip to the museum last year when I was graciously allowed to take photos throughout the house.
The exhibit was organized by shape...stars, squares, triangles, flowers... and had a gallery guide to go along with it. The guide was a nice, since you could read the description of each quilt more easily than reading the card stuck on the wall.

A reproduction of one of the exhibit quilts was hung in the lobby and was being raffled off.  You can't go wrong with the classic brown and pink color combination.

The staff and volunteers were very friendly and I got the personal touch.  I was the only visitor in the gallery at the time of my visit and was given a white glove so I could look at the quilt backs.  Just so you know, not everyone gets a white glove!

Among my favorites was a bed-size nine patch quilt with 3/4 to 1 inch squares in each nine patch and set with indigo squares. This is the block size I would use in one of my miniature quilts, so you can image it is quite impressive in a large quilt.  Another of my favorites is illustrated in the booklet below.  I love the color combination.  I want to make a small version and use all half square triangles to make up the block.

So now for the give-away...The museum produced a small booklet that includes photos of some of the quilts from the exhibit. I purchased an extra copy so that I could offer it to you and help spread the word about the lovely Packwood House museum. Leave a comment to be entered.  It would be nice for non-followers to become followers of my blog, but not necessary to have your name put in the hat for the give-away. I will draw the winner on Friday evening.
And now for the surprise...well, I can't tell you about it just yet, except to say it involves a collaboration between myself and a fellow-quilt historian/blogger whom some of you may already know.  Stayed tuned and don't forget to comment for a chance on the quilt book.

  6. Beautiful flowers; beautiful quilt! I know I'd enjoy a visit to the museum, but since I also know I'll never get there, I'll leave the booklet for someone who might get to go someday. But thanks for the offer; I'm sure it is interesting. ---"Love"

  11. How thoughtful. I was fortunate to visit the first Packwood quilt exhibit three years ago. Hoping to align schedules to make it to the current exhibit, but it's doubtful.

  12. Thank you for sharing news about your recent trip. I got to see the exhibit 4 years ago and indeed the staff are very helpful and friendly there. It is very thoughtful of you to share the chance for a booklet of the event. Please enter my name. And if you can, share more photos of the town. It has some lovely architecture.
