My husband and I took an overnight trip to Lewisburg PA, about a three hour drive from our home. Our first stop, and the reason I picked this destination to begin with, was the Packwood House Museum. They have a large collection of quilts, furniture and art. The story of the family is long and complicated, so you'll have to visit for yourself to find that out, but I wanted to share photos from the museum. The museum director was gracious enough to let me take lots of photos. Good publicity for the museum he says--so please go visit! Here are the quilts on display now. They have many more and are planning a special quilt exhibit for 2012. I will post other photos later.
Thank you Ann for posting these lovely quilt pictures from the Packwood House Musuim in Lewisburg. Beautiful and look forward to your next post with more pictures.
ReplyDeleteHappy 4th of July to you and your family.
Carolyn :)
Wow - some nice quilts there. Hope your post sees lots more visitors.
ReplyDeleteI see loads of inspiration for you, of course these are all probably far too large for you to work with - you'll have to make them about 1/2" finished or something! I like the red and grey quilt near the bottom of the post and those with circular flower-like blocks (I've never been so good with names) too...maybe there's some inspiration in there for me too! If I ever make it out that direction, I'll do my best to convince the hubby it's worth a stop.
ReplyDeleteFabulous post; the Packwood is a great museum, and in a really charming town. Thanks for sharing the show with us!

ReplyDeleteWhat a nice quilt collection they have! The first quilt on your post is interesting. I've seen the block in sampler quilts but not making up an entire quilt.
ReplyDeleteFantastic! Your head must be buzzing with ideas Ann. Those quilts look like they were made last week. What a fabulous museum - add it to the list of places I'd like to visit. Ann :-)
ReplyDeleteLots of inspiration there. Love the very first quilt. Very unusual. Is it an appliqued block?

I never know quite how I stumble across some blogs in my Internet wandering but I am glad to have found yours. Your report on the Packwood House Quilts tugged at my heart. I grew up in Ohio but my roots are Virginia. I moved to the PNW in 2004. I no longer have access to the fabulous antiques and quilts of PA, MD and VA. Oh, how I do miss those states and their treasure troves! Do you collect doll quilts by any chance? Here is a post I did on my blog Quilt History Reports about some of my doll quilts. http://tinyurl.com/3dglm33. Keep posting photos of antique quilts!
ReplyDeletewas going to tell you which quilt I liked the best but I can't ....the basket one is cute though
