I am spending this weekend finishing up items for the annual Pennsylvania German Folk Art Sale at the Mennonite Heritage Center in Harleysville, PA. Visit their website at www.mhep.org for details. I have made needle/scissor cases (which sold out last year on opening night!) and, as a new item for this year, pin cushions.
A sampling of needle cases.
First and only pin cushion copleted so far. I may add a button to the center. I am stuffing them with saw dust. Did you know you can buy a box of saw dust on eBay? I know it sounds crazy, paying money for saw dust, but it works really well; it gives some weight to the pin cushion, versus using fiberfill. Some folks recommend ground walnut shells, which also give a nice weight, but since these are being sold to the general public, I was concerned about people who might have nut allergies, so sawdust it is.
I also have been busy adding a few things to my Etsy shop, including a lovely red and white applique quilt, antique fabric yardage, and a hooked rug.
Lots of pretties there! I love the Union hooked rug and the red/white quilt! ---"Love"
ReplyDeleteI love your needle cases and pin cushion. They are very cute! Love the fabrics also.
ReplyDeleteI think you can buy anything on ebay! I've gone to my local builders store and have them sweep their sawdust into a bag. It was so messy using sawdust!! lol
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your sale.
cute rug and I love your little sewing kits too
ReplyDeleteHow sweet are those little needlecases! Just adorable. I think a person can sell their soul on Ebay ..... and someone would bid for it, probably! Your red and white applique piece is so fresh and vibrant - lovely. Thanks for sharing. xCathy
ReplyDeleteI usually use walnut shells, but a Lori said, you can buy anything on Ebay. I have bought bottle caps to make trivets - I covered them with 30s fabric yo you. The red & white quilt is gorgeous!
