Why pink binding?

Here's why I suggested pink binding on a blue and white quilt to Taryn http://reproquiltlover.blogspot.com/2010/09/baltimore-album-redux.html

A 19th century crib quilt.  I think it's a great combo.

  1. Why not pink binding? It is a WONDERFUL combo (imho). Thanks so much for the suggestion and for the picture. When I finish my Ohio star quilt it will be both primitive and whimsical. P.S. If you decide you hate the combination then I will be more than happy to take that quilt off your hands. Yes, I would do that for you. :)

  2. I totally agree with your suggestion! And if you don't want to give Taryn your antique quilt, I will be happy to take it off your hands. :o)

  3. Do you think maybe the pink binding was done to add a feminine touch for a little girl rather than leave it all blue which she might have thought looked more for a little boy? Whatever the reason, it is a very nice little quilt. ---"Love"

  4. Hello Ann, I also would be happy to take it off your hands, especially because today is my birthday and my name is ANN!!! The pink binding looks fabulous and not something I would be brave enough to try so this was a fab picture to see. Ann ~ Australia

  8. It's always interesting to see historical pieces, and wonder why they did something;) I've been playing in some of their practices...fabric substitution, piecing pieces of patches, etc. Having a blast;)
    Happy Quilting!!

  9. The question of the pink binding reminds me of something my Mom used to say..."just to make you ask questions!"

  11. Now I see why you suggested it, thought it was a good idea, but a picture is worth a thousand words. I love the border as well. I will have to keep that in mind for a future project. Isn't it great how we can still be so inspired by century old quilts.

  12. I wonder if that was pink 100 years ago? Red would look good, too.
