We know what she was thinking

From time to time I post an unusual quilt and ask the question "What was she thinking?"  and we have fun speculating.  Today I have a variation on this game called "We know what she was thinking."  No speculation necessary in this case!

I posted this one on the APQ blog some time ago, so some of you may remember it.  But hey, its summer, everything is a rerun.

This turn-of-the-century doll quilt came with a note attached.

The note reads:  Patchwork sewed by Aunt Mary circa 1902.  1st last and only--done under protest
We know what Aunt Mary was thinking.

  2. Love it- Sewing was obviously not her favorite thing- I wonder what she did like doing.

  3. That's too funny;) We tend to think that everybody that ever made a quilt enjoyed it, especially way back when. I am sure that there were girls that preferred to play with rocks and mud...otherwise we would never have had sufferage;)
    Happy Quilting!!

  4. That is a great little quilt and the note is so special. I guess she didn't enjoy quilting but she must have loved her niece a lot to do it anyway!

I grew up on a farm and we ended up with a lot of stray dogs. One of them arrived with a note attached to her collar! It told us about her, everything except her name. We ended up calling her Susie.

  6. Poor aunt Mary! My MIL always said she couldn't see cutting a piece of fabric in tiny pieces only to sew it back together again! She is 91 now. To each his own I guess. We all have different things that interest us.

  7. Oh, how amusing. And how wonderful to have a note attached with the maker's feelings so freely given.

  8. Yes, I do remember that quilt and note from APQ days, and it is still as amusing now as it was then. I agree; we pretty well know what she was thinking! Probably something like "I'll do it this time, but don't ever ask me to do it again!"---"Love"
