Well, the pile of little quilt tops isn't getting any smaller, so I think it's time to do a little quilting. I have a total of ten tops to quilt. The flower quilt is something I haven't done before--I took an antique block (which included up to the yellow) and added borders to it using antique fabric.
I made a stack of blocks to make into ornaments, too.
Here's my latest find from ebay--a darling little doll quilt, only 8"x12". Dating to ca. 1870, this quilt is in remarkably good shape despite the fact that is composed of mostly brown fabrics. The strips are 1/2 inch wide. I can't wait to make my own version.
The little quilts are wonderful! Are you going to quilt by machine or hand? The ornament blocks will be perfect for a Christmas tree!
ReplyDeleteThe tops all look great. I love the little dolly quilt, but I wonder why the whole thing is brown?
ReplyDeleteI really like the flower quilt, and would love to make something similar.
ReplyDeleteThe doll quilt is lovely. Do brown fabrics not age as well?
Sandy
Love your pile of little tops, ready to be layered and quilted. Your little antique is a good find. Do you think that some oft he fabrics might have started as another color and faded to brown?
ReplyDeleteI'm betting another color faded to browns on the doll quilt. That happened on some of the old quilts I have. Nevertheless the doll quilt is a cutie!
ReplyDeleteYou make so many nice little quilts. In the process, do you ever wonder what folks will say or ask about them in 50-100 years, much as we are all wondering about your special finds? That's a question I've never asked myself --- well, except about the baby quilt (Summer Sherbet) and its matching doll quilt that I made for the first little girl born to my grandsons. *wink* Who knows when that will be? ---"Love"
