Should I order a rug kit?

I want to make a rug!  I must resist...I already have too many quilting projects underway, including one for a magazine that I must finish.  I visited one of the websites (the bluetulipwoolery.com) mentioned in my rug hooking class and found a kit for a rug that would be perfect for my front hall (once I re-do it which is one of my summer house projects along with painting the kitchen along with the gardening along with attic cleaning...).  The welcome rug with two flowers and blue leaves is the one I want to do.  Seems the website offers completed rugs too.   Maybe I should do that?  Hmmm, my birthday is coming up soon....

  2. My advice...buy the rug. Forget the kit. If you are like me it will sit on the shelf haunting you. Just go ahead and order the completed rug and then you can use it to spur you on to re-doing the front hall.

  3. The rugs on her web site are gorgeous! It is always fun to try something new, if you are sure you will finish it, order the kit. If you are not sure you have time with the other commitments, order the completed rug. It will look great with your decor, it fits right in!

  4. If I could afford it, I'd buy the completed rug and forget the kit. I don't think I'd live long enough to complete it, even if I never made another quilt! *wink* ---"Love"

  6. Wow, thanks for sharing that website. The rugs are just amazing. The welcome rug will look great in your house.
I would get the kit... but I tend to get myself a little overloaded. Kit or completed rug, either way it will be great.

  7. I would say just get the kit. But if you think you will start to resent the project because it is taking you away from your first love then buy the rug and look at it while you quilt.

  8. Confession time...I have two (expensive) rug kits sitting in my house right now. One, I bought last summer (right after my hooking class) and another more recently. I don't own the fabric cutter yet (those guys are expensive--about the cost of a decent antique quilt!) so there is no hope of even starting the kits until I get one. I have pretty much forgotten how to make the rug so I'll have to get a book to refresh my memory. Given the choice, I think I'd buy the rug right now. However, maybe in a few years if work and family are less crazy, I'd love to attend some of the rug guild meetings, buy the fabric cutter and get comfy in a chair to hook away (right next to the antique quilts)!

  9. Hey, forgo the guilt of yet another unfinished project and order the one that's already done. You can start enjoying it immediately!
