There are lots of wonderful fabrics in the 9 patches, spanning approx. 1870-1890.

Double nine-patch quilt top
Sheryl of Temecula Quilt Co. showed some double nine patch blocks on her blog recently and asked for ideas for setting the blocks. They reminded me of this small ca. 1890 quilt top that I have. The blocks are set straight with an indigo fabric that has tiny white open circles.
The blocks are just under 12" and the top is 55"x67". It has a narrow border.
What happened here? Just a wee bit short on the indigo fabric...

The fabrics are so wonderful. I have a packet of indigo and one of bubblegum pink that I bought to make a quilt that was a copy of an antique quilt. Course now, I do not remember what the quilt looked like. I think you just inspired me to figure out a use for those little bundles. Thanks
ReplyDeleteGreat quilt - I really love the ones with so many fabrics. The maker did some great improvising on the indogo border and the block with alternating pink. I may do some improvising today to get past some road blocks ;-)

Just goes to show that even the smallest scraps can be made into something pretty and practical. ann :-)

ReplyDeleteWe tend to ignore these simple patterns, but these old blocks are a great treasure of vintage fabrics.
