AQSG Seminar-Crib Quilt Study Center

On Thursday morning I attended the crib and cradle quilt study center presented by Debbie Cooney and Polly Mello.  They showed crib quilts from their collections that spanned about 100 years.   Both ladies are extremely knowledgeable and shared their expertise with us.  They graciously allowed us to photograph the quilts at the end of the session.  This reversible 4-patch was my favorite.  I love the colors and the simplicity of the four patch block.

One of the interesting comments was that some of the pieces that we call crib quilts (because they are small) may not have been made to be used in a crib or cradle at all.  They might have just been small works of creativity on the part of the maker.   A few more photos

    I share your love of these small quilts. These are wonderful examples! Would love to find out more about this size not necessarily having a purpose other than delight.

    Love the red & white applique (naturally). I don't know when these quilts were made, but are you sure the makers could afford to make quilts just to look at? Makes me wonder.

    What amazing quilts those are from many years gone by. Someone really loved to do applique work! I'm wondering if 100 years from now, the quilts we are making today will still be around and being admired by people. ---"Love"

    I LOVE that green applique! All of them are fantastic, but that green one really caught my eye. What treasures to be able to see up close and photograph.

    Thanks for sharing, I was tempted to attend this quilt study but I went to Winterthur instead. I knew Deb and Polly would do an excellent presentation. Esp. like the blue/green applique in the apple pie ridge pattern. Did you see Pook had sold several antique pillowcase sets last weekend for pretty high prices. I think the secret is out. So good to meet you in person and to see your p.cases.
