The Slipcover Diaries-the final chapter

Recall last time I had completed the slipcover for my ottoman.  That was my practice piece before attempting to do the wingback chair.  The ottoman came out really well, my confidence was high, so I decided to....

get the chair reupholstered by a professional instead of making a slipcover!

What I did not tell you before is that the wingback chair is a recliner.  I had planned to wire it closed so it couldn't recline, and slipcover it.  And that's why I bought the ottoman in the first place; who needs a recliner when you have a nice comfy ottoman upon which to rest your feet?

Well, apparently my husband and sons do.  When I revealed the details of my plan, suddenly the chair they hardly ever used, became their favorite spot to relax and it had to recline.  I gave in, thought briefly about learning to reupholster, then made a phone call.  The chair was delivered today and I love it.
Recline or use the ottoman or do both.  We aim to please.  The cat likes it too.

  1. Even though you did a super job on the ottoman, I suspect you made a wise choice for the chair and your piece of mind! It does look great, and I love the flag pillow! ---"Love"

  3. The chair looks great and I think that photo answers the question of why you need an ottoman for a fully functional recliner - something for the cat to hide under and pounce at your feet from! (Never mind a skirty thing for extra fur to be deposited on while climbing under it...coming from the slave of 5 such furry beasties, I know!) But really, the chair and ottoman both do look great!

  4. The both look wonderful! If I didn't already know, it would be hard to tell which one you did and which one was done by the pro!

  5. Good decision. Put your efforts into more fun things. Pat yourself on the back for the ottoman. Bet the cat was embarrased upon seeing her picture.

  6. That's a great story...with a happy ending. They both look great but the ottoman has that special loving touch to it.

  7. The chair and ottoman both look great! Good idea to let the professional do the chair. I watched my Mom recover several pieces of furnature and it takes time. I am way too impatient. Now you can sit back, put your feet up and do some fun stitching! I love the flag pillow, it looks stunning in the chair!

  10. LOL! Great decision! Looks beautiful!

I made a slipcover for our sofa and then sent the sofa to be reupholstered! (But I did put on the slipcover this summer-yep, I'm using it just the way a slipcover should be used...to keep all those shirtless backs off my sofa!)
